WHERE TO GO, WHAT TO SAY

Luke 19:29-35 NKJV
29 And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. 31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you loosing it?’ thus you shall say to him, ‘Because the Lord has need of it.’ ”
32 So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. 33 But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?”
34 And they said, “The Lord has need of him.” 35 Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him.

One of the things that helps me with reading the Bible is believing that everything was written for a reason. I do not believe any of the authors were filling space or getting paid by the word. They were writing under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and everything has purpose. When I adopt that attitude, I receive more from the Scriptures, looking for the meaning and not just reading at face value.

In our verses for today, a great question is: Why is this account of the donkey written? Everything has a purpose, so why this story? Why didn’t Luke simply say they went into the village and found a donkey? I believe we see the Lord instructing His disciples as to where to go and what to say because this principle applies to us today.

In Proverbs 3:6, if we acknowledge the Lord in all our ways, He will direct our paths. Here was the Lord instructing His disciples on how to accomplish a task He assigned to them. Jesus didn’t simply say go get me a donkey because the prophetic scriptures say, I ride in on a donkey. No, He told them what village to go to. He told them where to find the donkey. And He told them what to say if anyone questioned them. And it turned out exactly as Jesus told them. To these disciples’ credit, they went where He told them to go and said what he told them to say. And it worked out perfectly.

I believe the Lord is still the same. And I believe He will give us clear directions as to how to accomplish the assignments He has for us. We must first believe He has something for each of us. We are not simply making plans and asking Him to bless them. We are inquiring of the Lord what His plan is and then how we accomplish that plan. The Holy Spirit was given to us to guide us into all truth, teach us, bring God’s Word to our memory, and show us things to come. That is pretty specific.

APPLICATION

I believe if we ask more, we will receive more instructions from the Lord. Lord, what do You want me to do about this situation? And here’s a good one. Lord, what do you want me to say in this situation? Receiving heavenly wisdom will be such a help in dealing with disputes and family drama. We all have the capacity to receive more than we are currently walking in. But so many times, we have not because we ask not. Let’s level up our asking and seeking the Lord as to His plan. His plans worked then with His disciples. His plans will work now with us, His modern-day disciples.

PRAYER

Thank You, Lord, for guiding and leading me by Your Spirit in the seemingly small areas of life. Thank You for showing me where to go, what to do, and what to say.
