Proverbs 30:5 NKJV
5 Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

When a product claims to be pure, it’s wise to pay attention to the list of ingredients. Even something that is pure gold has other elements mixed in. But when the scriptures say that God’s Word is pure, there is nothing added.

Three different times in the Book of Psalms, God’s Word is proclaimed as pure. The margin of my Bible says that the word pure is tested, refined, found pure. And in a world where the lines between truth and fiction are becoming increasingly blurry, God’s Word stands as pure with nothing added and zero deception. Various experts and intellectual leaders over the centuries have cast doubts on God’s Word. They have proclaimed it a work of fiction, legend, myth, and deception. They are gone, and God’s Word still stands. In fact, the Bible is still the biggest seller worldwide, and sales are increasing. There are many things today that deserve our scrutiny, not our trust, but it’s good to know we have something pure we can count on.

And the purity of God’s Word is directly connected to our ability to trust Him. There is no trusting God without trusting His word. His word reveals who He is and what He has done for mankind. We can discern the existence of God by what He has done in nature. We see the world around us, and wisdom grasps that we are living in a created world with a Creator. But to come to know this Creator in a greater way, we’ll need to hear His words to us. The more we know what He says to us in His word, the greater our foundation for trust.

When we put our trust in God by trusting His word to us, we come under His protection. He declares that He is a shield to us. Because we are living in a fallen world where Satan has authority, we are still subject to face trouble. Jesus said we would deal with tribulation, but we can be hopeful because He has overcome the world. And we most likely have no idea how much God has protected us in this life. There is trauma we have missed because we put our trust in Him. And declaring our trust in Him is a wise thing to do. We make this promise of His protection personal when we make it our own and profess that we trust in God and He is a shield to us.

APPLICATION

We never waste time reading and meditating in God’s Word. His Word feeds us, strengthens us, shines light on our path, and plants divine seeds in us.

We never waste time speaking, thinking about, and praising God for His promises to us. This is an important way we make His pure word a reality in our life. God’s Word is spiritual reality. And we want His reality to become a bigger part of our reality.

PRAYER

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for Your pure word. Thank You for the pure promises You have given me. I put my trust in You, and I will not be ashamed.
